Sensei

  The KV Judo Club has had many students obtain their Black belt level and has produced many champions but most of all we are proud to offer a club where youth and adults can learn the sport of Judo in a fun and safe environment.

   The following are brief profiles of each of the instructors of the KV Judo Club that have made this possible.

Jeff Porter

  Sensei Jeff began his Judo career at the Shimpokai Judo Club in Saint John in 1972. He was taught by Carl "Dutchie" Schell as well as many other knowledgeable Judo instructors. He was promoted to Shodan (1st degree black belt) while with the Shimpokai Judo Club.

  He started the KV Judo Club with the assistance of Craig MacDonald and James Trask in 1996. The club started with just 6 young beginner students. Sensei Jeff has worked hard over the past 21 years to develop the KV Judo Club.

  Sensei Jeff has a Bachelor of Education degree with a Major in Physical Education from UNB Fredericton. He has his NCCP Level 2. He was promoted to Nidan (2nd Degree Black Belt) in 2005, and to Sandan (3rd degree black belt) in 2013.

Andrew (Andy) MacBean

  Sensei Andy began his Judo career at the YMCA Judo Club in Fredericton in 1985. Since that time he has instructed at several clubs including the YMCA in Fredericton, the UNB Judo Club, and the Shutokai Judo Club

  His experience as a Judo instructor began in 1989 and he joined the KV Judo Club during the 2000/2001 season.

  Sensei Andy was promoted to Shodan (1st degree Black Belt) in 1996 and to the rank of Nidan (2nd degree Black Belt) in 2005.

  In 2013 he was promoted to Sandan (3rd degree black belt). He has also attained his NCCP level 2.

Peter Halpin

  Sensei Peter began his Judo career at the Shimpokai Judo Club in 1978. He was taught by Carl "Dutchie" Schell and Harold Stears as well as many other knowledgeable Judo instructors who instilled in Sensei Peter the principal of 'giving back'.

  Sensei peter joined the KV Judo Club in 1997.

  He was promoted to Shodan (1st degree black belt) in 2005. He has his NCCP for coaching, and a 'Provincial A' ranking as a referee.

Lynsey Welling

  Sensei Lynsey began her Judo career at the Shutokai Judo Club in Fredericton in 1994. She has been coaching Judo since 2002 and has instructed students of all ages and ranks.

  She was promoted to the rank of Shodan (1st degree Black Belt) in 2006 and joined the KV Judo club in 2007

Trevor Nisbet

  Sensei Trevor began his Judo career in 2007 with the KV Judo Club. He has been coaching for seven years.

  He was promoted to Shodan (1st degree Black Belt) in 2013.

Thomas Nisbet

  Sensei Thomas began his Judo career in 2007 with the KV Judo Club. He has been coaching for seven years.

  He was promoted to Shodan (1st degree Black Belt) in 2013.

Alex Gower

  Sensei Alex began his Judo career in 2007 at the KV Judo Club. He has competed across Canada representing the KV Judo Club at the Nationals, the Quebec Open and many other tournaments including in Boston.

  Sensei Alex was promoted to Shodan (1st degree Black Belt) in 2015.

  Sensei Alex has also competed nationally in Wrestling and won a bronze metal.
